Episode 13: “Fate Of The Doppelgangers”

Qetsiyah comes to know of Esther’s plan of visiting the side of the living. She leaves Esther and Linda with Kol to prevent Esther from making the visit.

Katherine tells Stefan about Elena’s location but she has plans of escaping from Mystic Falls to never return. But before Katherine could run, Silas and Jeremy kidnap her.

Rebecaa and Matt are free from captivity; Elijah and Hayley join them.

 Klaus is lying unconscious in the deep freezer at Melissa’s (Lucy’s friend’s) house and Melissa is frightened to find a stranger at her house.

Lucy tells Elena about Bonnie’s death and about their spell to bring her back from the dead. Elena agrees to sacrifice herself for her best friend, Bonnie.

Is Elena dead??

Silas and Jeremy had been driving to the spot where the spell was being performed. Jeremy was at the steering and Silas was on the back seat with the unconscious Katherine.

“Hey Silas,” spoke Jeremy as he handed over a syringe filled with what appeared like blood, “Take this and inject it directly to her heart”. Silas took the syringe.

“What’s this?” asked Silas.

“A generous donation from Stefan. Just do it-”

“Okay. As you wish”, said Silas as he jammed the syringe near Katherine’s heart and emptied the whole syringe.

Stefan and Damon had reached the spot where the witches were performing the spell. Lucy had been rubbing a giant sharp knife against Elena’s tender neck to carefully collect the doppelganger blood in a silver chalice.

“Elena!!” shouted Stefan and rushed to help her but he couldn’t get past the circle formed by the tribal witches.

“What the hell?? Why can’t I get past?” Stefan mumbled to himself.

“What’s wrong??” asked Damon.

“We can’t get past the circle... This imaginary circle formed by these witches. I think it’s... it’s bound by some spell”

“So break the circle”, suggested Elijah as he joined them. He was escorted by Rebecca.

“So what are we waiting for??” asked Rebecca.

And soon the four of them- Stefan, Damon, Elijah and Rebecca began the mass killings of the tribal witches from Haiti. Biting them, ripping off their hearts from their chests or simply twisting their necks. It took them no time to kill all the ten witches, who now lay dead. It was like history was repeating itself.  Centuries ago, at the same place, a hundred witches had been rounded up and brutally massacred- burnt alive at the stake.

Joshua Garfield observed this violent mass-murder from a distance. 

“This is not gonna work. If they find us, we’d be dead too. We’ll find some way to bring Esther back later-” he explained. Moments later he and his men dispersed like ghosts disappearing in the darkness.

“Elena, you can’t give up like this-” said Jenna.

“It’s okay, Jenna. I have been cheating death since very long.  I have lost a lot of people along the way... I lost you, Bonnie, Ric and... amd John. Jenna, John sacrificed his life so that I could live a normal... human life. But... but what did I do? I.. I failed him. I failed all of you.  

“No, you haven’t failed John”, spoke Alaric, “and you haven’t failed us, Elena. Well at least until now you haven’t. But if you’re gonna give up now then... then it is certainly going to fail all of us-” Elena broke into tears.

“I have seen a lot of people die around me. I... I can’t keep burying the people that I love. And today... today if I choose to live then it would mean that Bonnie-”, Elena couldn’t finish as Qetsiyah cut her in.

“Well Elena”, said Qesiyah, “I think your friends love you a lot. Look, they have found a way to keep you from dying”. Elena turned to look.

Jeremy had brought Katherine as a replacement for Elena.

“Lucy”, said Jeremy, “you needed a doppelganger. Now we’re offering one”

“I don’t know if this would work... We have already started the spell”, replied Lucy.

“What’s wrong in trying??” asked Stefan.

“Okay. Bring her into the circle”, Lucy said.

 Jeremy placed the unconscious Katherine inside the fiery circle. Lucy made a deep cut on Katherine’s wrist and began collecting her blood in the same chalice where she was collecting Elena’s blood. Elena’s wounds had started healing but she was still unconscious. Her heart was still beating. Lucy began mumbling a spell to herself.

“Whoa, whoa”, said Damon, “I thought your spell needed a doppelganger’s sacrifice?? We know Katherine’s human but cutting her wrist won’t take away her life?? What’s made you all merciful toward this merciless Katherine Pierce??”

“I have linked Elena and Katherine. As we now have two doppelgangers, I’ll use them both for the spell and none of them has to die”

“But we all want Katherine to die. That’s the whole point”, said Damon.

“Damon, no...  We don’t want Katherine to die”, defended Stefan.

"Seriously??” Damon was surprised at his brother’s kind-heartedness for Katherine.

“Fine”, said Damon, “but I don’t want any part of it. So I’m going-”

Saying so Damon departed. He went straight to where his car was parked. Standing next to the car, was Silas. He had been standing outside his own car waiting for all this to get over.

“So you’re allowing Qetsiyah to cross over to this side?? I thought you wanted to stop the spell??”

“Yes, so had we planned. But it seems that older Bennett is trying hard to bring back the younger Bennett from the other side. Well... we need Bonnie, so..”

“Okay”, said Silas.

“Wait. Are you scared of your two thousand year old girlfriend??” asked Damon.

“You don’t know Qetsiyah or you would be scared of her too-”

“Yeah well... Don’t worry, we’re here. We’ll deal with her together. We’ve dealt with much worse. Now how bad could this lady be??”

The chloroform had started losing its effect and Katherine had started gaining consciousness. But Elena was still lying unconscious.

“Aghhh.. Huhhh...”, she moaned.

“Aghh...Wha... what are you doing??” Katherine shouted.

“Hi, Katherine. You were not thinking about leaving Mystic Falls, were you??” smiled Stefan.

“Bonnie”, said Qetsiyah, “ it’s time-” She held Bonnie’s hand and Bonnie held Elena’s and the three of them began crossing past the lowered veil and the veil began rising up after them.

“Take care of each other”, said Jenna as they began parting away.

“Merhabaa”, Xoro greeted Qetsiyah as he dropped the rock that contained calcified blood of Qetsiyah . The rock had turned red with the blood that had flown out of it.

Qetsiyah walked forward and placed a hand on Xoro’s shoulder. Moments later, he fell dead.

“What did you do?” Bonnie asked in bewilderment.

“Nature demands balance, Bonnie”, she replied calmly.

Suddenly something went wrong with Katherine.

“What... what’s happening to me??” Katherine’s breath began choking. Everyone was bewildered to watch Katherine begging for breath. She was struggling very hard to catch her breath but to no effect. Eventually, her body gave up and her heart stooped beating.

“Lucy, what did you do??” Stefan asked concernedly.

“I... I didn’t do anything. I only unlinked her from Elena”.

Back at Melissa’s house, Klaus suddenly sprang back to life. Xoro had died. So the spell that he put on Klaus had worn out. As Klaus was back in his senses now, the mystery of Katherine choking on her own breath was now clear. Klaus had compelled her not to move out of his house but she had been moved out... moved out to be sacrificed. And though unintentionally, but she had been sacrificed tonight.

The five hundred year old Katherine Pierce was dead ??

Klaus got up and found Melissa standing at the corner staring at her. He, at once,  rushed to her and grabbed her neck.

“Tell me, where is Lucy??” he asked her threateningly.

“I... I don’t know”, replied Melissa.

“Tell me the truth. Where is Lucy??” he asked again. This time compelling her to say the truth.

“I told you I don’t know-”

“Very well. Then you have absolutely no use for me now” With a twitch, he cracked her neck. Her lifeless body dropped on the floor.
